Year end message

Each year I find myself reflecting on things I should have done, could have done or in some instances shouldn’t have done. One thing is for certain, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each employee, customer, vendor and colleague that has helped to make Smith Sawmill Service a # 1 supplier in our industry. Although 2019 had a few hurdles, overall it was a very successful year and for that I am more than thankful. In the last few years, we have seen rapid growth in our manufacturing capability. During 2019 the circle saw division at Smith Sawmill Service got quite a face-lift. Once we were in our new building, we added new equipment and saw the talents of our employees reach new heights. Through training and research, their skills not only met, but exceeded, our expectations. Smith Sawmill Service will celebrate its 30th year in 2020; we feel young enough to keep growing and learning and mature enough to be a leader in our industry. We have come a long way in those years and I am proud to be a part of the integration of technology and saw filing. Through our customer portal, circle saw use and repair patterns can be tracked with customized programming. We operate a modern CNC machine shop and have a service team that is second to none in the industry. In addition to our circle saw presence, we have also teamed up with the best manufacturers of wide bandsaws and filing room equipment in order to meet all of our customers’ needs . Our experienced service team can help with training, design, diagnosing or repair. Their hands-on knowledge of most filing room equipment makes them one of our greatest assets. Our narrow band weld center is the largest in the states and proudly supplies the majority of the pallet and lumber mills across the US. We have six outside salespeople working with six inside salespeople covering the south. Please do not hesitate to call and ask who we have in your area. Our goal in 2020 is to NOT miss an opportunity. When I am not with a customer or visiting a mill, I can normally be found in my office at either our Texas or Louisiana locations. I look forward to your call to talk sawmilling. Other than working with my family, there is nothing I enjoy more about my business than the opportunity to visit and assist with sawmill issues. As a 3rd generation saw-filer, I have over 45 years of sawmill and saw filing experience. My company enjoys over 200 combined years of sawmill and filing experience. The future of Smith Sawmill Service, is in its people and its leadership and I couldn’t be more proud of our future. Michael Smith is a 4th generation filer with over 20 years’ experience in designing, building and repairing custom and guided circular saws. We enjoy what we do and hopefully if we aren’t already serving your mill we will be before we celebrate 2021!
